BIOGRAPHY

I completed my Open University Nursing Degree whilst working as a Health Care Assistant at Northampton General Hospital. Since becoming a Nurse I have worked in Cardiology; firstly, in a Cardiac Ward, at Northampton General NHS Trust; and, then within the Heart Centre, at Northampton General NHS Trust. This involved Monitoring and Observing Patients before and after the procedures; Escalating Concerns to the appropriate members of the MDT; Documenting within the Patient’s Notes; effectively communicating the results of the various tests and procedures with the Patient, their Family and appropriate members of the MDT; Assessing Patient’s suitability for discharge following their Medical Review; and Safely Discharging Patients from the Heart Centre by completing their EDN’s, Referrals to specialist teams (e.g., Cardiac Rehab, RACPC, smoking cessation, etc.), collecting and checking TTO’s, and ensuring that Patient’s get home safely, confirming that someone will be remaining with them overnight; while adhering to the Trust and NMC standards, protocols and guidelines.

After working at Northampton General NHS Trust, I moved to Milton Keynes University Hospital, working within the Angiography Unit. This has allowed me to continue to develop my skills and knowledge within Cardiology by working within the Cath Lab, both as a Scrub Nurse and Runner, assisting Consultants with Angiograms, Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCIs), Pacing Procedures (such as Pacemaker Implantations, Box Changes, Implantable Loop Recorder (ILR) implants), and various Cardiology Test (such as Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TOEs) and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms (DSEs).
